August 31, 2023 – The Centre for SDG Research and Support (SDG Move), as a co-organizing partner, participated in the event “Sustrends 2024 | 50 Sustainability Trends Changing the World” held at the Benjakitti Forest Park Museum in Bangkok. On this occasion, Assistant Professor Chol Bunnag, Director of SDG Move, was invited as one of 20 leading speakers in the industry to present future trends in sustainability work on the topic of “Adjusting SDGs from 17 Goals to 6 Problem Clusters”. The event was attended by over 1,000 people.
Some key points of the presentation “Adjusting SDGs from 17 Goals to 6 Problem Clusters” by Asst. Prof. Chol Bunnag:
- Why do we need to adjust? Because if we continue to operate as we do today, working in isolation, it will take until 2065 to achieve the SDGs, which is 35 years later than the target of 2030.
- What are we adjusting to? The 2019 Global Sustainable Development Report proposed a new framework for the 17 SDGs, transforming them into 6 problem clusters for more integrated SDG implementation. These are:
- Human Wellbeing and Capabilities
- Global Environmental Commons
- Sustainable and Just Economies
- Sustainable Food System and Healthy Nutrition
- Energy Decarbonization and Universal Access
- Urban and Peri-urban Development
- How do we need to adapt? We need to change the way we work by adjusting our working mechanisms to align with these 6 problem clusters, allocate specific budgets for SDGs, give space for the private sector, civil society, volunteers, and communities to co-drive, use research and support research according to the problem clusters, and build capacity for people to understand SDGs in depth.
The event “Sustrends 2024 | 50 Sustainability Trends Changing the World” was organized by The Cloud in collaboration with UNDP, the National Economic and Social Development Council, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, UN Global Compact Network Thailand, OKMD, SDG Move, Sal Forest, Mae Fah Luang Foundation, Green World Foundation, ChangeFusion, RE100 and over 20 other sustainability organizations.
