March 19, 2026 – The Centre for SDG Research and Support (SDG Move), in collaboration with the Office of Quality Development and Sustainability at Thammasat University, hosted a knowledge-sharing workshop titled “Promoting and Managing Volunteering for Sustainable Development at Thammasat University.” The event took place at Room SC3-411, Social Sciences Complex 3, Thammasat University.
This meeting served as an open platform for various departments within the university to exchange experiences and best practices. The goal was to co-develop systematic volunteer management guidelines aligned with the university’s strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, the workshop prepared the university to elevate and communicate its role in connection with the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026.
The session featured a keynote by Ms. Nuntinee Malanon, Deputy Director of SDG Move, on the framework “The Role of Universities in Promoting Volunteering for Sustainable Development.” She emphasized that university serves as core institutions that engage with local communities by linking knowledge, resources, and people to social development. She also advocated for the systematic integration of volunteering into the university’s four primary missions: teaching and learning, research, academic service, and student development.
Beyond the lectures, the event included a knowledge-sharing session where participants discussed volunteer experiences and lessons learned within their specific faculty contexts. Attendees included faculty members, support staff, and practitioners from various disciplines, such as the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Architecture and Planning. Together, they brainstormed to distill lessons from current support systems for both student and staff volunteers.
This meeting was more than just a discussion forum; it aimed for tangible outcomes, including proposed mechanisms and guidelines for systematic volunteer management across various university contexts to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation, the initiation of a preliminary university volunteer activity database, and the establishment of a coordinator network across departments. These initiatives will drive volunteering to become a sustainable and integral part of Thammasat University’s core mission.
