SDG Move Invites 10 University Networks to Meet and Summarize the First Year of the Reinventing University for SDGs Project

May 31, 2023 – The Centre for SDG Research and Support (SDG Move), Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University, as the responsible party for the “Project to Support and Promote the Potential of Higher Education Institutions to Drive Sustainable Development Goals,” supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, as part of the Thai Higher Education Reform Policy or the Reinventing University Project, invited 10 network universities to listen to the summary of the first year of operation and to discuss and exchange ideas on the direction of future collaboration.

The Project to Support and Promote the Potential of Higher Education Institutions to Drive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aims to develop the potential of Thai higher education institutions to be ready to drive the sustainable development goals of Thailand. It supports and promotes higher education institutions to be leaders in driving solutions to local sustainability issues in collaboration with various sectors. The meeting was attended by representatives from the following 10 pilot universities that have participated in building capacity for sustainability to drive local sustainable development goals:

  1. Naresuan University
  2. Silpakorn University
  3. Prince of Songkla University
  4. Suranaree University of Technology
  5. Siam University
  6. Huaqiao University
  7. Songkhla Rajabhat University
  8. Surat Thani Rajabhat University
  9. Liayongkorn Rajabhat University
  10. Buriram Rajabhat University

The following are the activities that have been implemented over the past year:

  • Training on university capacity development and sustainable development goals (SDGs)
  • Development of the SDG Tracker tool for universities
  • Capacity building for key university personnel responsible for sustainability to provide them with the knowledge, understanding, and tools to drive SDGs at the local level (Training for Trainers)
  • Establishment of a student leader network to drive local sustainable development
  • Development of guidelines for driving local SDGs in collaboration with various stakeholders of the university
  • Organizing a conference to exchange knowledge and learning on the role of universities in sustainability with foreign universities.
